Easy Baby Vest Knitting Pattern for Beginners
This easy baby vest knitting pattern is perfect for beginners. It is made with garter stitch, which is the simplest knitting stitch, and does not require any complicated shaping. The vest is also small and quick to knit, making it a great first project for new knitters.
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn (choose a soft and baby-friendly yarn)
- Size 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles

Sizes: Newborn (3-6 months, 6-12 months)
Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations:
- K: knit
- P: purl
- K2tog: knit two stitches together
Pattern:
Back: Cast on 36 (40, 44) stitches.
Row 1 (Right side): Knit all stitches.
Row 2 (Wrong side): Purl all stitches.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 5 (6, 7) inches from the cast-on edge, ending with a wrong-side row.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 2 (3, 4) stitches at the beginning of the next two rows.
Continue in pattern until the piece measures 8 (9, 10) inches from the cast-on edge, ending with a wrong-side row.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 10 (12, 14) stitches at the beginning of the next two rows.
